BIG ADVENTURE PART 4Yesterday I was boarding the train from Kutaisi to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.Although it is only 200kms, the Soviet era train takes approximately 5 hours. I arrived to my compartment with a bang! Bang into the door jam. My giant backpack and I couldn’t quite make it through the doorway. I also had a smaller backpack on my front, a Khachapuri (Georgian cheese filled bread) in one hand and a bottle of homemade wine in a leaky jug in the other.Startling two babushkas and a man on the window seat, it took them a moment to take in the blustering Aussie who had burst into their quiet compartment.One of the babushkas spoke in rapid Georgian, pointing to the leaking jug of wine, the other, also speaking rapid Georgian was pointing to the seat. Dishevelled and not thinking I blurted out in English that the jug of wine was a gift, not realising it was leaking and she was trying to alert me to it.The man by the window stands up and helps me with my luggage and the other babushka is still pointing at the seat. I couldn’t figure out why she was so concerned that I must sit down but in fact, she was indicating that I could store my luggage in the seat, saving me from trying to lift it above my head. ...
