Bonjour, welcome to my site and merci for stopping by.  I hope that you find here some interesting things to do, some helpful tips and discover my secrets in Paris…

Paris is undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Measuring only 10 kilometres wide, neatly packaged into 20 arrondissements, each with their own individual charm and character, bursting with a myriad of wonders to explore.

Paris is where your senses come alive; the sights of a grand well designed city, the gentle hum of Parisians in a café, or the lively buzz of market vendors, as they tout their produce, the smell of freshly baked bread, wafting from a Boulangerie, tasting the abundant, delicious food on offer,  and the touch …. when she, Paris the city of love,  enters your heart.

With a discovery to be had in each nook and cranny and a surprise around every corner, Paris never ceases to surprise and amaze me.

When I first visited in the 1980’s, I left somewhat disappointed, the French had a reputation of being rude and snooty, the city was dirty and I couldn’t make out what all the fuss was about.

30 years later, clocking up around 25 visits since,  I have been completely seduced by the city’s magic and charm. The more I learn, the less, I feel I know.

The long sweeping boulevards, tiny cobbled laneways, magnificent architecture, two small islands at its heart, with 37 bridges to transport you from the right to the left bank over the river Seine, so much to explore!

Paris oozes style and so does her inhabitants.  Quiet, cultured, refined, humble, sophisticated, in a very unpretentious way.

With a burgeoning need to provide more helpful information for my readers and friends, sadly, I have decided to abandon my old blog at Blogger, and migrate to WordPress in an effort to provide you with a more functional way of following my blog and discovering what Paris has to offer.

Whether you are just passing through, perhaps gathering information for your upcoming visit to the city of love and lights, or have followed me over to my new website, please have a look around and let me know if there is something you would like me to add, share or discover.

Your stories and insights are very welcome and will be helpful and useful to fellow Francophiles, followers, travellers and me!

Share the love and the knowledge!

What is there not to love?

In a city that is 10kms wide, has 204 museums on everything conceivable, some of the most brilliant architecture in the world, can be explored entirely on foot but also has a metro system that is safe and simple to use  … what is there not to love?

As Humphrey Bogart said in Casablanca …   ‘we will always have Paris’

Thanks for dropping by, share the love!

And there she goes again. A burst of photos and stories after a long absence and disappears, yet again. Well, my friends, I want to tell you a story that began with a simple ride from Brussels, Belgium to St Pancras,London without a hitch but that would not be telling the truth. I won’t say that I have travelled the world because that would be a lie. But let’s say that I have travelled a fair amount. Peak hour madness in London doesn’t phase me, even with 8 kgs on my back and two carry on suitcases evenly weighed at 10kg. I expertly moved them up and down escalators, carried them up and down stairs, however …When I arrived in London, I didn’t have internet access and I thought that my whole life had turned to shite. A friend was waiting at the end of my journey, I needed to tell her my arrival time, also to allow me entrance into her apartment and just like the good old days, I had no way of contacting her. I kind of knew what I had to do. I navigated the peak hour streets from St Pancras to Euston, only to find that I had booked my train in the opposite direction. At this point it felt like a slap stick comedy from the silent film days and I was ready to crawl into a foetal position in the middle of a busy train station. From here I bought another ticket, missing the previous train, and bought a ticket from the ticket machine, paying almost double But there I was, sweating like a menopausal woman in a steam bath but now too weary to wonder if I could fit in the carriage and have any strength left to lift the two 10kg bags above my head to stow them. It was then that my Knight in not shining armour arrived. He said ‘you right love’I said ‘ I don’t think I fit here’He said ‘come on, I’ll give you a hand’ and with those words I thought that I would burst into tears. I kept it together. He saw me fidgeting when my stop was approaching and offered to help me off, it was his stop too. He not only took my bags from the overhead storage but carried them up and down stairs and then dropped them in front of me and said. ‘ you alright love’ and disappeared into the crowd. I fought the tears again because of his kindness. My friend was waiting at the other side of the gates with no judgement of my delay and the journey I had had. She just said, it sounds like you need a glass of wine and all was good! HOWEVER, that still doesn’t offer my excuse for the lack of posts except to say that I’m now enjoying some time with friends in the UK but I’ll be back to fill you in soon. And to explain about this image of an art Deco place that I visited on my last day in Brussels and yes, you heard that right, not Art Nouveau, but Art Deco. PHEW. It’s now 1am. Tomorrow I’m meeting with another dear friend and so much packing in to do. Thanks for understanding… I hope. 😘 ... See MoreSee Less

Hello from Brussels, yes I am back in Brussels for my last fews days in Belgium.Today I took a well needed R & R day after 31 days on the go, I am starting to feel a bit pooped! However what about my time in the mental institution, a children's hospital and a castle - huh? What do these all have in common? They are all located in lovely Ghent and I am still not quite ready to put Ghent to bed yet.#belgium #ghent #gravensteencastle #houseofalijn #museumofdrguislain ...
